Mina, this post is brilliant. It was so spot-on that it was almost uncomfortable to read, but in a good way. I shared it with my husband too and he appreciated what you had to say.

You manage to put into words experiences that can be very difficult to explain despite their potency.

I call it unintentional neglect when referring to my childhood. What didn't happen is often more damaging than what did. "If a feeling arises and no one seems particularly interested in it, the simplest solution is to move on. Over time this becomes a habit so natural that it barely registers as a choice." This so resonates for me. I like the concept of internal signals. I know that I'm a good therapist because of my own CEN. And YES the book Running on Empty has been such a helpful book for me and several of my patients.
